What are Implants?
A dental implant is used to replace a missing tooth and can support one or multiple false teeth. A titanium screw is placed into the jawbone in place of the natural root of a tooth. They can also be placed to stabilise and aid denture retention. These false teeth will look just like your natural teeth and it can be very hard to tell the difference between the two.
There are a great number of implant systems that can be used. However, your dentist may refuse treatment if any factors may compromise the success of the implant. Heavy smoking and drinking are two of the compromising factors.
What Are The Benefits?
An implant can last for many years and the success of the treatment very much depends on how well you look after them, much like the health of your natural teeth. Many people no longer wish to live with removable dentures, instead they invest in achieving a permanent solution to the loss of their natural teeth.
How Is It Done?
A simple local anaesthetic is normally used to fit an implant so that you will not experience any pain. If you are very nervous it is possible to provide sedation. Our team at The Dentist @ Tupsley will assess your needs.
