Wisdom Teeth

Many people struggle with their wisdom teeth; here at The Dentist we frequently treat patients who require removal of wisdom teeth.

Wisdom teeth are usually the last to erupt and this usually happens after your 18^th birthday. Sometimes wisdom teeth can be impacted; this would mean that the tooth may have grown in a difficult angle. Often, there is not enough room in the mouth and this can lead to food trapping and difficulty in cleaning, resulting in decay on the tooth itself or on the tooth infront. If ignored it could lead to the loss of both effected teeth, without the individual being aware until it is too late.

Often impacted wisdom teeth can cause inflammation and pain due to food debris becoming stuck, this is called periocorinitis and often requires antibiotics as it can restrict jaw opening.

Here at The Dentist, our oral surgeon would always advise if you require your wisdom teeth removing, following a full examination and x-rays as each tooth would be assessed individually taking into account numerous factors.
